New Moon Virgo: What's Getting You Through the Day?

It's the New Moon in Virgo today (6:30 am EDT), with its potent effects lasting for the next few days. How are you really doing these days? With Mercury in Retrograde, this question is up for many. It's a review of how we fill our days, and how we coped in times past, and now. Yesterday I saw a post from Evolver, that many on this social network are reporting things like "body aches and scary dreams" lately.

Sacred Days

The Moon is in Virgo, in its holy time of the lights going out -- at the Dark Moon. Last night, in this very rural place, I turned off my flashlight, and it was pitch black. I couldn't even see the dirt road. That kind of dark is vast and disorienting. At the Dark Moon, we enter that open psychic terrain.

Redemption from Dirty Business with Everyday Choices

"The hour is ours. It is time for each and every one of us to ask the important questions, to search our souls for our own answers, and to take action." These are the words of John Perkins, author of the bestseller, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. He's the ultimate insider who spent decades in what his corporate groomer warned him would be a dirty business. After helping corporations plunger entire countries and enslave them to debt, he's a man seeking redemption and a better world for his grandson.

Writing of the crisper air in Vermont, Mark Borax' September report makes me wistful for one of nature's most artful displays -- New England autumn colors. Virgo Wellness Rx

Living with a Virgo, I'm familiar with the ace traits of Virgo -- like close observation, constant striving, and self-critique. And how this pressure to do good and be good can itself become a source of stress. In her Virgo Wellness Prescription this month, Stephanie Gailing of Planetary Apothecary reminds us that the Virgoan striving can inspire, but that "perfection" is not a human reality.

An Urgent Call of the Land

A series of serendipities led me to the work of astrologer/agrarian Steven McFadden, with his powerful message, "The land is calling loudly, urgently. Time to respond." He's written three books on farming, the latest is The Call of the Land. And in a late July radio interview, he talked about the summer's intense astrology, "the industrial oil catastrophe" in the Gulf, and the need to listen for "What is the Land asking of me?"

Clearing the Fog Friday

Some psychic gates opened for me at this Full Moon in Pisces, one that Art Gianfermo of Aquarian Solutions called, A Full Moon of Conspiracy, Paranoia and Craziness. That's what got me thinking about the need for psychic boundaries, and discipline about what I'm personally exposed to. There's a lot of indiscriminate emoting, and reactionary behavior lately that instinctively makes me self-protective. After all, I've got my own mad woman to dance with.

Full Moon: Lost to the World

It's been swampy wet and humid here, and that puts most everyone in a late summer stupor. Add the mystic's Moon, and it's a recipe for zoning out (in a good way). I did a few things yesterday that were very Pisces-Virgo: identified mushrooms (looking for the magic ones); dried out some books that got wet in the rain (page by page); did some research on lost worlds of the pre-Indian Moundbuilders.

Sun in Virgo

Yay, the Sun is in Virgo and I for one welcome the busy bee energies. It's still the dog days here in the humid South, but there are subtle hints of the changing season. The Sun Virgo is a time of solar waning, with shorter days. And that kicks us into gear, to get more done, and prepare for the winter months of darkness. Traditionally, it's a time of preparation -- getting ducks in a row.

Mercury Rx Kicks Off Today

For this retrograde of the messenger Mercury, he's speedily cycling back in Virgo. It's worth slowing down, and leaving yourself more time to get places. Virgo is a physically jittery sign, so watch the anxiety levels, if the mind starts going 'round and 'round, thinking of all the things you have to do. Your mind may be elsewhere -- that's why little details can slip by that turn out to be big deals either in the moment, or later. The Starchild Skull: When Bones Tell a Radically Different Story

Capricorn rules bones, skeletons, teeth -- and some digging into their mysteries shows how a story can change in a radical way. For example, it was accepted history that 57 Irish immigrants working on the railroad in 1832 died of cholera. But a recent research dig of their bones, shows evidence of violence. This mirrors the Cardinal T-Square, for revolutionary discoveries (Uranus-Jupiter Aries) that alter the whole narrative (Saturn Libra) of human history or origins (Pluto Capricorn).

Busting Out and Shaping Up: Jupiter Opposite Saturn

Jupiter and Saturn are often talked about as a duo. Jupiter is the thrill of learning and expanding, while Saturn is the sense of structure we need to feel that our lives have stability. The first was May 22nd, and the third is on March 28th, 2011.

Does the Earth Talk to Us Through Our Feet?

I've been walking barefoot more this summer, reminded by what Regina Meredith of Conscious Media Network said recently on her monthly show, The Fifth Element. That the Earth is constantly sending us messages through our feet. It makes me realize more profoundly, too, how paving over our Earth is so symbolic of our disconnect from the home planet. I wonder if all these earth quakes are in part, the Earth trying to free herself from all this suffocating asphalt.

Today's a big day on a few fronts, but let's look at Saturn-Uranus, exactly opposing again, but in cardinal signs this time. Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are turning point signs, each impacting its environment through its element. Aries is the fire sign of knowing the Self through direct experience. Uranus Aries heralds a collective waking up to the joy of personal discovery. It's the cultivation of your own perspective, and learning who you are by following an inner directive, not repressing that to conform to the demands of others.

Tough Talk from a Mystic and "Man on Fire"

In a talk with astrologer Robert Phoenix, the scholar-mystic Andrew Harvey comes down with a fury on the idea that we can visualize the Gulf back to its pristine state. We're not going to get off that easy, and this type of thinking, he says, is denial, and a narcissistic idea of what the divine is. His words remind me of Pluto transits, and how we try to bargain our way out of a loss, but only by surrendering to it, do we transform.

He's describing so well the rigorous initiation of Pluto in Capricorn when he says, "Do we think we have total control of the Earth and we can use intentional prayer to clean up our ca-ca? Or do we start to realize that we're in the hands of a divine that loves us but is also having to heal us because we're desperate addicts of power and domination -- by a desperately difficult bottoming out, which through miraculous grace, is also going to be a birth."

Andrew Harvey has a new book out called, Heart Yoga and has written another one called, The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism. In the talk, he gives listeners an idea of what he thinks is required of us, in this period of crisis, with practices like yoga, shadow work (of the collective and personal) and more.

At one point in the Interview,...
